Wheatpaste mural in Bangor

There are more than 20 wheatpaste murals adorning the buildings in downtown Bangor. They’ll be up until the natural elements of Maine washes them away. Take part in the Downtown Bangor Summer Mural Scavenger Hunt and enter to win two vouchers to the Waterfront Concerts. The contest runs for the month of July. All you have to do is snap a selfie with five of the murals to enter. Find out all the important contest information on our website!

Thomas Hill Standpipe Summer Tour

Once a season, the historic Thomas Hill Standpipe allows visitors to access to its promenade deck. You have to be able to climb 100 stairs, as it’s not handicapped accessible. The standpipe was built in 1897 to provide water storage for downtown Bangor. The views from the top are sweeping! Mark your calendar for July 24 from 4-8 p.m. and see for yourself!

University of Maine Museum of Art

Thanks to generous donations, the University of Maine Museum of Art is able to offer free admission. The museum’s permanent collection focuses on art created since 1945.

Mount Hope Cemetery

Take a self-guided mini tour of the Mount Hope Cemetery. Spanning across 300 acres, Mount Hope Cemetery is the second oldest garden cemetery in the country. The Bangor Historical Society has created a PDF of the tour that you can download on their website.

Downtown Bangor ArtWalk

On the first Friday of the month, stroll through downtown Bangor enjoying open studios, mingling with artists and community members, and take advantage of open air dining. There’s a broad range of artistic styles on display during the Downtown Bangor ArtWalk between 5-8 p.m.

Orono Bog Boardwalk / Bangor City Forest

Open during the warmer months, the Orono Bog Boardwalk is a 1-mile loop that’s perfect for curious kids. It’s located adjacent to the Bangor City Forest, which has year-round trails for feet, skis, snowshoes, and bicycles. Grab lunch and enjoy free summer fun on the trail!

Harness Racing

Hollywood Casino Hotel and Raceway features harness racing from May through November. Pick your favorite horse and rider and cheer them on from the grandstand. Placing a wager is not required.

Bangor Band Concert

This community band has been performing continuously for 160 years! In fact, it’s the oldest, continuously performing community band in the United States! You can catch a concert all summer long, just check their website for their performance schedule.
